Is there a fandom service where you can commission someone to pimp your new show? Because I am terrible at it, and probably have zero credibility given most of the stuff that I watch. Plus, I've never worked out how to include an image in a post, so no picspams for me.

But I want everybody to watch Sea Patrol with me!

It's about the Australian navy, which means that it's mostly set on a boat! At sea! With lots of action! And sometimes pirates!

Um, that's probably not enticing enough, is it?

There are lots of characters, and I'm starting to be able to tell them apart after six episodes! It was hard at first, because they all wear uniforms -- mostly fatigues, but occasional the fancy dress kind. People like uniforms, right? Also they all have nicknames, some of which refer to their positions on the ship and some of which don't, so you have the XO and the CO, but also Nav and Buffer and Swain and Spider and Two Dads. And some that I'm forgetting. But I like them all!

(It is also a very white main cast, though I wouldn't be surprised if that were a realistic reflection of the current demographics of the Australian navy. There are a lot of Asian characters who appear in single episodes, and a bunch of stuff about foreign fishermen and asylum seekers and immigration policies that I can't fully parse because of limited familiarity with Australian politics.)

XO is my favorite. She's played by Lisa McCune, who (according to my Australian colleague) is a big deal in Australia, and I want her character to hang out with Sam Carter in fic some day. I probably shouldn't tell you this, but there is UST between her and her commanding officer (you guessed it, CO). But it's not like the Sam/Jack thing in SG-1 that people hated, really! And there is also another crewmember with a crush on her, so she's got options. But basically she's awesome.

Not that romance is a big theme -- I can say with a fair degree of confidence that we won't get any love polygons of doom hijacking Sea Patrol, unlike other shows that I could mention (*cough*LOST*cough*). Unless the Sea Patrol crew ends up on the LOST island, which is geographically plausible, but probably only likely in fic.

Still, the point is, that this show is maybe turning me into a proto-shipper! I'm not there yet, and I don't have any OTPs on the horizon, but -- I'm speculating. And there's plenty to work with -- six or seven guys on board plus three women makes for multiple combinations of all persuasions, even an OT10 if you like.

Anyways, if you're up for a high seas adventure with an ensemble cast, here's your show!

*snerk* Hint: There are lots of characters, and I'm starting to be able to tell them apart after six episodes! is perhaps not the best way to get people to watch your program.

If it makes you feel any better, it took me, like, a kerjillion years to get people to watch Life on Mars; I still haven't gotten anyone to watch Sandbaggers, and that's with mailing people envelopes full of DVDs....

See, I said that I'm not good at this! In the show's defense, I've only started watching with the third (current) season, by which time all of the characters had been introduced & established (except for a new guy). So it's not that they lack individuation, but rather that I'm late to the Sea Patrol party.

Sandbaggers does sound kind of interesting. Hmm....

Woot!

(Roy Marsden! Arguing his way through a bunch of committee meetings! And about six metric tons of emo manpain! Who wouldn't love that?)

(By the end of this week, I will have had enough of arguing my way through a bunch of committee meetings to last me through the rest of the summer. Also, I can provide my own emo manpain. But alas, I will never be Roy Marsden.)

(Yes, but have you been fighting Communism? And if so, how? It's actually a very good program if you're fed up with bureaucracy. And hey, I will never be Roy Marsden, either.)

(I've been fighting for Communism! Or at least a more progressive and equitable distribution of resources. Including the ones that fund my organization. My favorite "fed up with bureaucracy" show was actually La Femme Nikita, for versions of bureaucracy that include workplace politics & regulations. Because there, surviving and thriving in your organization truly was a matter of life and death.)

(It's now the People's Popular Front for Unwed Rabbits?)

(Oh, it'll get you dead in Sandbaggers, too. Demonstrably so.)

(My boss is out of town, so suddenly I'm responsible for negotiations wherein we stand to lose a big chunk of money and a major program. Which, hey, it's tough all over, but I really believe in this program and it's demonstrably making a very real impact.)

(And of course nobody's given me the actual program budget, plus the head of the program is on vacation and unreachable. So I won round one during a five-hour meeting earlier this week, and I'm now preparing for round two in a couple days.)

The laconic, steely-eyed emo manpain! And the verbal fencing over lunches in Whitehall with his ex-father-in-law!

Seriously, though, it was very cool and Le Carré-esque in its focus on the internal stuff, with the occasional disaster in the field just to keep it all nice and angsty.

*snerk* Hey, I'm still stalled out on Farscape.

(Why can't I find my wide-mouth canning lids? I have scrubbed the counters and everything else is ready to go and NO LIDS. I blame Mothra.)

I'm game! A2A is on hiatus and I'm tired of Burn Notice Leverage high-gloss, high-concept caper pieces. Temporarily, I'm sure.

I'm... acquiring S1 even now. Wheeee!

Excellent! I... acquired S1 a couple of weeks ago, but have been saving it up for -- well, we've been having rainy or at least perpetually overcast days for weeks on end now, so let's just say I've been saving it up.

It sounds very interesting! If I haven't forgotten about it by the time I whittle down the to-watch backlog (which doesn't really help for your purposes)....

Heh, I have my own to-watch backlog which is failing to whittle itself down. Plus I've been tempted by your H.I.T. write-ups, especially since it's been a while since I've seen a good kdrama (though I usually lean more towards the love polygon dramas).
