To tangentially reply to your statement about the unlikely/complicated contact between "the art world" and "the vidding community": well, in the person of the artist who incorporates both sensibilities, for one thing, like Stacia Yeapanis.
But even apart from appropriation/recognition aspects, to me it's mainly aboutlazy no research on the Gallery's part, as
giandujakiss argues. It's not as if there wasn't enough context a *lot* closer to home, so to speak, just as you point out.
