 You can tell that the writers enjoy working on this show. Sure, a lot of the dialogue is trite and clichéd, but they keep throwing in these clever, artful moments and you can almost feel the writerly hand behind them. And after tonight, I'm thinking that at least one of the writers is a fan of The Great Gatsby.

I just love this show!

Spencer & Jenna in the library! Compare "You're careless and you break things and you think you're never going to have to pay for them" to "They were careless people, Tom and Daisy—they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness, or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made."

(Also it becomes clearer each week that the actress playing Spencer, Troian Bellisario, is the strongest of the lead quartet.)

That's a great theory about why Gatsby is so popular in (upper middle class) American high school English classes (or at least seemed to be in my day).
