C'mon, why don't you come and see it all

I've been in the fannish doldrums since the Sarah Connor Chronicles finale. TV, why hast you forsaken me? And yet I persevere, in search of squee. Last week's field notes:

So You Think You Can Dance Australia -- fun while it lasted. Still, I never really got excited about any of the dancers, and had no favorite among the final four. I hate to say it, but I think the U.S. and Canadian versions attract better overall performers.

Chuck -- there is a lot to love about this show, and some episodes really click for me, but this wasn't one of them. I'm sure it would've been more satisfying if I'd seen all the episodes. I'm guessing that it will be back for at least another half a season, but I secretly wouldn't mind seeing what Yvonne Strahovski and Ryan McPartlin could do in other roles with meatier dramatic material.

LOST -- I accidentally got spoiled via feedreader the morning after it aired, and have put off watching in the hopes that I'll somehow forget the spoiler. It's not working, so I'll probably watch it tonight.

Supernatural -- another show I only watch sporadically these days, and last week's episode reminded me of why: bad writing, weak acting, poor directing.

Dollhouse -- the show only works for me when there's so much Big Stuff going on that it drowns out the problematic treatment of its skeevy premise. Even then, Echo's scenes increasingly trigger my embarrassment squick when I remember that Eliza Dushku sees the series as a showcase for her acting skills. Unpopular opinions: I hated Alan Tudyk in Alpha's environmental consultant guise, and I never liked Miracle Laurie in the Mellie personality. In both cases, I primarily fault the writing but the performances augmented my dislike.

Oh well, better luck this week, maybe?

And I just got two more Dreamwidth invite codes "for the following reason: Thank you for supporting Dreamwidth!" This must be what it feels like to be a Girl Scout during cookie season with a quota to fill -- I haven't managed to give away any of my first set of invite codes yet. What's worse is that I haven't actually done anything to support Dreamwidth.

So: take my invite codes, please! Otherwise I'll be forced to set up multiple journals for myself: cat_of_crypto, crypto_on_politics, crypto_sings_gershwin -- it won't be pretty.

So much disagreement on SYTYCD AU - I think they attract dancers of similar quality, and that their show format is superior to the other two countries'. The reason (IMHO) that it became a little less interesting this year once it hit top 4 was that (a) they strung it out across three weeks) and (b) the top 4 were ALL great dancers, good personalities, and more or less on par with one another. Like, I loved them all. I would have been happy to see any of them win.

Hey, thank you from and for my new account spot!

Wait, what's wrong with cats and Gershwin music? I like cats and Gershwin music.

posted with an icon from a Gershwin movie, just because...

You don't have dedicated journals for those purposes, but you do have a journal where you can do them. So I guess you'll be insufferable here...? ;)

ok, I was being a bit disingenuous; it happens to be my default icon

The icon is from the last movie George Gershwin composed music for before he died, Shall We Dance (1937). You know the expression "potayto/potahto, tomayto/tomahto"? It's from that movie. Fred Astaire sings it to Ginger Rogers. Then they tap dance on rollerskates. It makes sense in context (sorta).

I try to be predictably insufferable so that people know what they're getting into.

I see. You're not a sadist, you're just trying to attract masochists. ;)

Do you sing Gershwin?

(I am having a similar problem. Between my spouse and I, we'd finally managed to use three invites...and then we got four more this morning. Ack!)

Who could ask for anything more?

Yeah, all that's coming to my mind is that one about liking New York in June, which I don't think is a Gershwin tune. Though if someone else got me started I could probably do quite a few of them -- my best friend in high school was kind of into musical theater.

Oh, here we go, he wrote "I Got Rhythm" -- you know that one, don't you?

(Yeah, I am not the world's most successful DW evangelist, I'm afraid.)

...I think I know the Sublime version of that....*g* And maybe the Janis Joplin....

(Hah, my recruitment pitch is pretty sad. "I think they're sub-evil!" That's what years of getting burned by internet corporate activity will do to a person!)

You should watch Better Off Ted! :)

Oh is that why there was no new ep? We never watch stuff on the actual TV, so I never see what replaces things when they're not airing.

Oh man, that's awesome! I ♥ that show so much it's not even funny.

Hey there, I'm wondering if you still have another code left and are willing to share it with me.

I've been Googling for a few minutes and, from what I've seen, I'm not the only person using search engines to find a code... I hope that you don't find me too random!
